TeV String Theories, Mini Black Holes and Trans-GZK Cosmic Rays
The existence of cosmic rays transcending the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin (GZK) cutoff appear to be a fact of life. While there is still some controversy regarding the observational data, it appears that opinions converge toward acknowledging the existence of trans-GZK events. Clearly, the issue will be satisfactorily clarified once future detectors, such as OWL, EUSO, the Pierre Auger Observatory,...
متن کاملStrings, Black Holes and the Extreme Energy Cosmic Rays
In a large class of string and string inspired models the string excitation and black hole pictures invoked as an explanation of trans-GZK cosmic ray events are equivalent. Single particle inclusive distributions are asymptotically thermal at the Hagedorn temperature. The hadron multiplicities are reminiscent of multiplicities in heavy nucleus initiated interactions.
متن کاملNeutrinos from active black holes, sources of ultra high energy cosmic rays
A correlation between the highest energy Cosmic Rays (above ∼ 60 EeV) and the distribution of active galactic nuclei (AGN) gives rise to a prediction of neutrino production in the same sources. In this paper, we present a detailed AGN model, predicting neutrino production near the foot of the jet, where the photon fields from the disk and synchrotron radiation from the jet itself create high op...
متن کاملSources of sub - GZK cosmic rays
We analyze the existing evidence that BL Lacertae objects (BL Lacs) are sources of the highest-energy cosmic rays. We argue that three independent signatures observed in the real data — (1) improvement of correlations with corrections of trajectories for the Galactic magnetic field; (2) connection between γ-ray and UHECR emissions; (3) non-uniform distribution of correlating rays over the sky —...
متن کاملComment on “ Formation of primordial black holes by cosmic strings ”
We show that in a pioneering paper by Polnarev and Zembowicz, some conclusions concerning the characteristics of the Turok-strings are generally not correct. In addition we show that the probability of string collapse given there, is off by a large prefactor (∼ 10 3).
